i prodotti Costella

The Unione Imprese Centenarie Italiane now numbers the first Ligurian company among its members: “Costella 1828” from Genoa, specialized since the beginning of the 19th century in the production of clothes, hair and shaving brushes.

Founded as an artisan workshop in 1828 in the heart of Genoa, in via Canneto il Curto 25 red, the rapidly developing company acquired the denomination “Luigi Costella & Sons” in the mid-19th century. Luigi himself expanded the company’s manufacturing and commercial scope, focusing first on the city’s intense port activities, before gradually consolidating its reach in other regions, with a vast catalog of products for professional (especially in shipbuilding) and domestic use.

In 1929 the facilities meant to become the company's production plants in Bolzaneto were purchased, and the company itself acquired the additional name “I.L.P.S.”, “Industria ligure Pennelli e Spazzole”. In that same year, a management and distribution office was established in via S. Lorenzo 5, near the small workshop the business had started from a century earlier.

The company, employing over 100 people, remained on the market even during the Second World War. In the second half of the 1950s, the brothers Gianni, Piero and Franco Costella further expanded their business with a sales network covering the whole national territory and reaching beyond its borders.

Together with their mother, the entrepreneur Anna Gianasso, the grandchildren Andrea and Pippo (fifth generation), continued the family tradition by focusing on the marketing of personal care items through a network of perfumeries scattered all over the Ligurian territory.

In recent years, in line with the original sector of activity, the company has focused on the development of projects related to classic barber products and the universe of men's toiletries.

“Costella 1828”, currently based in the prestigious 16th century “Palazzo della Meridiana” - a UNESCO World Heritage Site belonging to Genoa’s “Rolli” system – has established a strategic partnership with the prestigious historic Florentine brand “Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella 1612”. This fruitful collaboration provided the Genoese business with the opportunity to distribute its products with the Officina’s monogram in the most important capitals of the world.

With the entrance of “Costella 1828”, the Italian Century-old Companies Association expands its presence in as many as 10 regions, confirming itself as an association representing the longest-lived excellence of “Made in Italy”.
