The “Key of the Association 2019” bestowed upon Maria Francesca Merloni

During the traditional Winter Meeting, held this year on Monday, December 9th at Palazzo Incontri in Florence, the Key of the Association was presented to Maria Francesca Merloni, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Creative Cities.

The award ceremony was held in front of numerous members of the Italian Historic Companies Association, an organization representing as of today 44 over a hundred years-old companies from 9 different regions of Italy.
"The Key of the Association", now in its second edition, embraces the European Council’s recommendation aimed at broadening the horizons of "entrepreneurial skills and social and civic competences, while paying attention to sustainability" and “picking up the pace towards the dimension of complexity". It is bestowed upon personalities from the Italian cultural, scientific, and economic scene, whose work opened and followed innovative paths contributing to the country’s progress, in step with the association’s ethical and social objectives.
"I am proud and delighted to receive this award because it comes from an association representing Italian entrepreneurial excellence - said Maria Francesca Merloni - That is, from centenarian companies that are firmly rooted in their territory and local communities, the same communities my passion and my commitment as a UNESCO Ambassador for Creative Cities focus on”.
Roman, endowed with an extraordinary eclecticism, Maria Francesca Merloni after studying Political Science and Business Communication and pursuing a career as a marketing consultant for big corporations, decided to follow her profound poetic vocation, ranging across various disciplines and contaminating different forms of artistic expression, including poetry and music. After the seismic events that severely hit central Italy in 2016, she poured all her energy into the “Rinasco, le Città per l’Appennino” project. In July, 2017 the city of Fabriano hosted several meetings and round tables on the preservation of the local artistic and architectural heritage and on the projects aimed at supporting the sustainable renaissance of the area after the 2016 earthquake. For her commitment in promoting creativity as a catalyst for social, cultural and economic development, on October 4th, 2017 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris Maria Francesca Merloni was nominated “UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Creative Cities”.
During the Winter Meeting, which also saw the participation of Federico Gianassi, City Councillor for Commerce and Budget Assessor, other awards were bestowed upon representatives of three companies belonging to the association. Francesco Ricasoli, owner of Barone Ricasoli 1141, the longest running company among those that are part of the IHCA, received the “Skill Order”, a prize symbolized by a hammer (representing “expertise”) and “awarded to an institution or Person for having promoted the initiatives of the associated companies, with particular regard to the historical, civil, social and economic aspects of their activities”. Assigned only on two previous occasions, both dated 2014, to Cristina Acidini (art historian) and Eugenio Giani (former member and current President of the Regional Council of Tuscany), the “Skill Order 2019” was conferred upon Barone Ricasoli 1141 in order to reward the company “for having traversed 878 years of history with the elegance of an eagle flight and with wisdom and excellence as a reason for living". Lastly, two companies that have recently joined the IHCA received their the membership certificates: Mazzetti d'Altavilla 1846 from Altavilla Monferrato (specialized in the production of grappa and distillates) and Grendi 1828 from Cagliari (operating in the logistics and sea freight sector).
