The appointment with the Autumn Meeting of the Italian Historic Companies Association is approaching: this year it will be held on Friday, October 11th in Lucca at the premises of a company belonging to the association, Manifatture Sigaro Toscano 1818. This is the third seasonal event organized by the IHCA, the association representing the oldest continually operating companies in Italy.
The program of the Autumn Meeting will be dedicated, in the morning, to the conference titled "The Centenarian Companies: Historical Heritage and Intangible Reputation". Daniele Pitteri (member of the Scientific and Cultural Observatory of the association) and Ledo Prato (Secretary General of “Mecenate 90”, a counseling and technical support association operating in the cultural heritage development and management area and in the tourism development sector) will discuss these highly-topical issues and the cultural and ethical peculiarities of the Association’s members.
In the afternoon, Associates and guests will have the opportunity to visit the “Manifatture Sigaro Toscano 1818’s factory (belonging to the Maccaferri Industrial Group) and discover the fascinating history of this company, founded in 1818, three years after a downpour fortuitously originated a line of low-cost cigars that met with an extraordinary and unexpected commercial success.
During the visit to the plant in Lucca, it will also be possible to observe the masterful work that is still carried out manually by 'cigar makers', extraordinarily skilled at rolling the Italian Kentucky tobacco cultivated in Valtiberina, Valdichiana, Veneto, Umbria, Lazio and Campania.
