Tessitura Busatti 1842 inaugurates a new branch in Florence
Tessitura Busatti 1842 (Busatti Weaving Factory 1842) from Anghiari, one of the long-standing “Made in Italy” brands that are part of the Italian Historic Companies Association, will open on September, 28th (5 pm) its new Florentine office in the premises adjacent to the Church of San Niccolò, in the Oltrarno district.
On this occasion, restorations of the artworks of the aforementioned Church will be presented: after being stored in the deposits of the Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano following the damage caused by the 1966 flood, these pieces of art could be restored thanks to the generosity of the Busatti brand. A restoration project was developed by the historical weaving factory in collaboration with the Superintendency of Florence, in order to bring the artworks back to their original location.
Tessitura Busatti was established in 1842 in Anghiari (the village were the battle portrayed by Leonardo da Vinci took place) in the cellars of the Morgalanti Palace, where the looms still weave precious textiles to this very day. It was the French troops, following the Italian campaign, to install the first machines for the carding of the wool used to make uniforms for the Napoleonic army. The uniforms were then dyed blue using woad flowers (Isatis tinctoria), the same flowers used by Piero della Francesca to give a light blue tint to his paintings. In the following decades, the Busatti family, once again in possession of the building, expanded the production with the addition of shuttle looms that now as then, with precision and quality, weave linen, cotton and hemp for the production of high-quality manufacturing products.
