100 years of Aurora celebrated with a postage stamp
An ‘Aurora 88’ pen tracing a tricolor sign, a distinctive symbol of the “Made in Italy”, and underlining the motto ‘in the heart and in the hands of the Italians’. It is the image that will appear on a new stamp belonging to the thematic series “Excellence in the productive and economic system”, dedicated to the 100 years of Aurora, the historic Turin-based company producing pens. The MISE (Italian Ministry of Economic Development) will issue it for Poste Italiane on May, 24th 2019 with a circulation of 2.5 million copies; the image will feature the logo of Aurora’s Hundredth Anniversary on the top left and the word ‘Italy’. A ceremony will be held at Aurora’s headquarters, just outside Turin, which for the day will be open to collectors for the philatelic cancellation, opening the celebrations for the centenary of the company.
The stamp honors one of Aurora’s classics, the 88 model, created in 1947 by Marcello Nizzoli and still in production after selling over 7 million pieces. But above all, it celebrates an outstanding family business rooted in the territory but with a strong international outreach, now approaching the philatelic world with the aim of exalting and promoting Italy’s history, its characters and its remarkable achievements.
Several special series will be issued, such as ‘Democratica’, ‘Productive Excellence’ and ‘Academic Excellence’, ‘Sport’, ‘Italian Cultural and Artistic Heritage’. The stamp dedicated to Aurora for the centenary of its foundation is part of the ‘Excellence in the productive and economic system’ series, which aims to promote Italian professional and entrepreneurial skills.
Its issuance is part of the calendar of initiatives that the company, established in Turin on June 6th, 1919, is planning to celebrate its first hundred years of history. A centenary that is also celebrated ‘visually’ with a new logo, ‘Cento!’, created in collaboration with Italdesign. A new image paying homage to the style and color of the traditional and unmistakable Aurora logo and enhancing its innovative and dynamic spirit. This is combined with the new limited line ‘Cento% Italia’, ten iconic pens in the history of Aurora symbolizing its ten decades, revisited and made in a limited number of pieces, only 100 for each decade, for both Italy and abroad.
