The Government of Malta – in anticipation of Valletta being designated as this year’s “European Capital of Culture” – entrusted “Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli 1905”, member of our Association, with the task of restoring the monumental sculptures of the Triton Fountain, an important symbol of Malta and its capital city.

The fountain, after a careful evaluation of the restoration’s feasibility, was dismantled by the technicians sent by “Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli 1905” and transported to the company’s premises in Barberino V. Elsa, where an accurate and careful restoration was carried out in the foundry. The fountain and the tritons had suffered serious damage in the 50s and were in very poor condition. The monument was eventually reassembled with an internal stainless-steel skeleton. The fountain represented for the entire Maltese nation the main attraction of the opening ceremony held on January 20^th,, 2018, celebrating Valletta as the “European Capital of Culture 2018”.
