Vinitaly “puntozero” for Mazzetti d’Altavilla
Mazzetti, Moda (Fashion) but also Monferrato, but also Morbidezza (softness), or Meraviglia (wonder): the big “M” that welcomed Vinitaly visitors at Mazzetti d’Altavilla’s stand (B16, Pav. 9) this year might have had many different meanings.
The Mazzettis have been distillers from 1846 -the oldest distillery in North-western Italy-, and their participation in the International Wine and Distillery Exhibition in Verona (9 to 12 April) brought a breath of fresh air to the manifestation. Let’s discover it together with the new generation (the seventh) of these “grappaioli” from Piedmont.
Chiara, Silvia and Elisa Belvedere Mazzetti, the female representatives of the distillery, introduced an innovative glamorous touch, from the staff, ready to tell you what Grappa is nowadays, to let you taste the ancient flavour of a myth with a bright future right ahead.
“GREENERY-GREEN” LIQUORS
In the new stand, nothing WAS left to chance, including the bright colors. The glittering orange refers to the dawn of the “puntozero” line, launched last year with “7.0”, Grappa Riserva di Ruché 100% cru, with its strong territorial identity and the floral aromas of the original grape variety from Castagnole Monferrato, last year marked a real “turning point” for Grappa. And then there is, above all, the “Greenery” shade, a revitalizing colour, symbol of new impulses, which recalls the early days of spring, inviting you to breathe some pure air, re-oxygenate your lungs and draw some regenerating nourishment in. Before the “greenery” shade was chosen as 2017’s colour by Pantone, considered to be the highest international authority when it comes to colours, Mazzetti d’Altavilla had already chosen that shade for the absolute novelty of the “puntozero” line: the Grappa 3.0 which made its official debut at Vinitaly.
GRAPPA 3.0, #COMEPIACEATE (#AS YOU LIKE IT)
Back to numbers: 3 vareties (Morbida, Barricata, Alto Grado) for 3 sisters with 3 different personalities (Chiara, Silvia and Elisa, the seventh Under 30 generation of the Mazzetti family). The packaging of these “total green” grappas matches the spontaneously sincere and lovable bouquets of three liquors that mark a primordial return to nature. What is the purpose of this new product lines belonging to “puntozero”? “Rediscovering the pleasure of consciously tasting life, sharing what’s good and beautiful, and embracing the new Grappa Generation by choosing the #comepiaceate varieties,” the Mazzetti sisters said.
BACK TO NATURE WITH #RIUTILIZZAMI (#REUSEME)
Nature is the real protagonist of Mazzetti’s Vinitaly the brand’s new collections presented at the fair, a true “opera prima” in the world of grappa, with fresh and original look. The new Collection is the result of an intense effort to promote the knowledge of grappa, it’s geographical origin and its eco-sustainability: by using the #riutilizzami hashtag, useful suggestions for the practical and creative reuse of boxes, decanters, cylinders and everything that makes up the Grappa packaging were given to the public, granting those accessories a new life as flower pots, sewing sets cases or ties. A greener life-style and a fanciful trend Casa Mazzetti invested in, and a new line of liquors ready to be launched, inspired by nature, and accompanied by a small cadeaux of Natural essences, and coming from the hills of Piedmont, a UNESCO Heritage site.
But also energy-saving practices, and labels and catalogues made according to environmental responsibility guidelines, including an eco-calculator.
VINTAGE, WHAT A PASSION!
An interesting Vinitaly also for vintage lovers, who will find a special line of products characterized by the “glamorous charm of the immutable.” To enhance the taste, a universe of materials befitting Mazzetti’s distillates: from cotton fibres to jute, from precious timber kinds Bohemian crystals, combining the agrarian and bucolic philosophy with sublime Art. Mazzetti’s liquors meet design and high-end craftsmanship in a line of useful, original complementary furniture and some precious vintage reserves bearing the seal of a Master Distiller.
And then there is the deepest connection with art … A very feminine touch was introduced this year, with a new decanter inspired by the faces of women immortalized by artists such as Vermeer, Murray and Modigliani, carefully coupled with ad hoc grapples expressing different personalities through different perfumes and aromas.
THE NEW LIFE OF “ARZENTE”, HOMAGE TO D’ANNUNZIO
But Mazzetti is not just synonymous with Grappa. During this edition of Vinitaly the Italian “Acquavite di Vino” rediscovered its ancient dignity thanks to a revaluation of this distillate not only as a precious, long-aged Brandy, but also as the “Arzente Zero Anni”, defined as “perfumes’ poem like D’Annunzio would have composed and A sip of the aromas of our beautiful country, trapped in herbs, flowers and fruits growing and maturing in the wild, close to the vineyards. “
MONDAY, APRIL 10TH: THE ART OF MIXING, WITH LUIGI BARBERIS
The Acquavite di Vino was the protagonist of the event held on Monday, April 10th at Vinitaly: Mazzetti d’Altavilla’s stand hosted a special guest, the award-winning and internationally renown barman Luigi Barberis from the Caffè degli Artisti in Alexandria, who illustrated the art of mixing to journalists, artisans and enthusiasts, including the surprising possibility of mixing different pure “made in Piedmont” distillates.
MATCHING FOOD AND DISTILLATES: THE NEW FRONTIERS
If tasting is an art (especially with the right glass of liquor), promoting the best match for Mazzetti distillates in a varied landscape of flavours was one of the goals of Vinitaly 2017: on Sunday 9th, Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th April , several chances to experiment new sensory approached were offered at Mazzetti d’Altavilla’s stand with the participation of a Master Distiller and the use of high-quality partner products. Some of the most appreciated combinations the “Grappa di Arneis giovane” and the excellent “Gorgonzola Gran Reservoir Leonardi of Igor”, a well-respected Piedmontese producer (from the town of Cameri, Novara). “Grappa di Barolo Invecchiata” (with natural dried fruit flavours) and Piedmont PGI IGP hazelnuts produced by the “Società Cooperativa Agricola Corilicoltori Luesi “ from Lu, Monferrato. Two of the several combinations will be featured in the new catalogue, a tempting modern and creative encyclopaedia of the most creative Piedmontese distillates and food combinations (including salty and sweet dishes, ice cream and cocktails), down to the eventual cigar.
Some more (really appreciated) tastings were offered at the Wine Tourism Movement’s stand.
GRAPPA? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT!
“We will be at Vinitaly to talk about history and tradition,” said Mazzetti d’Altavilla, a company that recently joined the Italian Historic Companies Association – and to talk about Grappa, with a modern approach to the knowledge of this Italian Distillate. “For this purpose, we are among the five distilleries promoting the meeting held on Monday, April 10th on the theme of qualitative evolution and the image of this excellence. We believe that this is a chance to promote today’s “grappa culture”, both nationally and internationally. “
Mazzetti’s Vinitaly “puntozero” welcomed its guests at stand B 16, Pav. 9.
