As part of the official celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of the Relations between Japan and Italy, on Wednesday, October 5th at 9 pm the conference titled “The Kaiyu Charm and the Style Secrets of the Japanese Garden” was held at the historic Officina Profumo – Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, Via della Scala n° 16 (Florence).
During the conference, the associate professor of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Mrs. Junko Sanada, besides illustrating the art of traditional Japanese gardening, presented the case of the Ritsurin Garden, a 75-hectares park considered to be one of the most sumptuous and beautiful ones in the archipelago.
Juko Sanada, born in Hiroshima, was awarded the scholarship “VULCANUS IN EUROPE” by the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation and participated in the training program held in Italy in 1996. She graduated in 1998 at the Faculty of Engineering of the Tokyo Institute of Technology; in 2005, she attained a PhD at the Faculty of Engineering – Department of Social Science and Engineering – Value Systems, and from 2007 to 2015, she worked at the Faculty of Socio-Techno Science of the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Since October 2015, she is associate professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Specialized in Landscape Engineering and Green Space Planning History, she published the book “How Green the City Should Be”, and in 2015 she was invited by the University of Venice to participate in research activities on those subjects.
